I offer private therapy sessions for children and adults, beginning with a consultation of your needs. Starting therapy can be a daunting task and I am here to reassure you and guide you through managing your concerns in a safe and non-judgmental manner. No issue is too small, large or shameful to receive help.
What is Individual Therapy?
Individual therapy takes place between an individual and a trained mental health professional such as a clinical psychologist. While the aim of treatment can be a wide range of issues, your therapist will help you identify your goals and the purpose remains the same- to increase someone's sense of well-being, remove obstacles to functioning, develop coping skills to manage difficult emotions and symptoms and to identify areas of growth.
In the pandemic, many individuals come to therapy due to uncertainty about the future, worries about their friends and family, and difficulty with boundaries with work. The state of lockdown is an unnatural state of being for us humans- who crave connection, engaging in pleasurable and meaningful activities and yearn for the freedom to be outside and move around as we please. Individual therapy can help you establish boundaries, routines and manage the limitations upon you.
Individual therapy or counselling also aids those with psychological difficulties such as depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorders and PTSD. Therapy, sometimes in conjunction with medication is useful in managing your symptoms and removing obstacles to living a healthier, happier life.
Individual therapy usually lasts for an hour and takes place on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. The average course of therapy is 3 months. However, some individuals prefer to come in for fewer sessions to work on coping skills while others remain for longer in order to focus on working through several issues and engage in personal growth.
During the pandemic, I offer individual therapy over Zoom and in my office at Global Doctors Hospital in Mont Kiara.
