Introduction

Hi Everyone! I am Ms. Syahira Khan, a counsellor supervised by Dr. Cassandra Aasmundsen-Fry at MindWell. I am working towards my double-board licensing as a Professional Counsellor.  I am highly passionate about what I do- my aim is to help individuals and couples understand and navigate through their emotions, build better behaviours and achieve a purposeful and meaningful relationship with themselves and others, in both their professional and personal lives. I value clients growth and their purpose, hence I ensure that I exercise empathic understanding and client exploration in all my sessions in a non-judgemental and safe manner.

I approach therapy through a Person Centered Therapy (PCT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy lens (CBT). Using PCT’s core values of unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuineness has enabled me to foster a stronger therapeutic bond with my clients, and give them the support they need for self understanding and positive growth. Concurrently, CBT emphasises the importance of healthy thinking, and using its therapeutic techniques with clients helps in developing healthier cognitions which I think is impetus in improving clients mental health.

Aside from providing individual therapy, I help with community empowerment at MindWell where I assist with providing talks and workshops designed to broaden perspective about mental health, and also provide support with social media engagement.
